Standards and Objectives

 

Standards:

The introductory college level Intermediate Algebra course offered by North Central Kansas Technical College will be taught in compliance with NCKTC Mission Statement, as well as the General Education Mission Statement of NCKTC.  The College Mission Statement and General Education Mission statement can be found on the About NCKTC page. 

According to NCKTC, the Intermediate Algebra course will teach the following standard topics as found in most Intermediate Algebra courses:  Number Systems, Linear Equations and Inequalities, Lines, Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities, Polynomials, Exponents, Rational Expressions and Quadratic Equations.  Upon successful completion of this course, students should have the skills required for entry into a College Algebra course.

Objectives:

Intermediate Algebra is an introductory course designed to provide you with the ability to: 

Perform operations within the real number system.

Solve first-degree equations and inequalities.

Graph linear functions and inequalities in two variables.

Solve systems of equations.

Add, subtract, multiply, divide and factor polynomials

Simplify, add, subtract, multiply and divide rational expressions.

Simplify and solve quadratic equations.
