Description
In this class students study the different forms of business entities, how to begin a business, and operate a business as an entrepreneur or manager. Important areas covered in the setting up and operation of a small business includes: planning, organizing, controlling, strengths and weaknesses, site location, financing, human resources, and promotion. An emphasis will be placed on creating, planning and presenting a business plan for a business that the students may someday begin.

Guidelines for Success
Attendance Policy
TARDIES:
For two tardies the student will be docked one day of unexcused absence. Tardy is arriving after the beginning of class and before the end of class.


ABSENCES:
After missing five days of unexcused absences the student will be docked one letter grade; each additional day is docked one letter grade, based on their final grade.

Unexcused Absences:
If there is school and you choose not to be in class it will cost you one day of unexcused absence.
If you are sick that will cost you one day of unexcused absence.
If you are going to the doctor that will cost you one day of unexcused absence.
If you are gone from class for any nonschool related absence it will cost you one day of unexcused absence.

Excused Absences:
Any Long term illness or injury will be handled on an individual basis. Please communicate with the instructor these situations. The instructor will only change unexcused absences after the student has communicated with the instructor.
School related activities are excused absences.


SCHOOL WORK POLICY:
All Homework, Tests, and Assignments are to be completed before excused absence.

Some assignments may be assigned the day of absence so the student may need to request missing assignments upon return.
NOTE: The instructor will not notify the student of missed assignments assigned during the students absence.

All Homework, Tests, and Assignments are due as assigned.
If the student is absent on those days the student is responsible for submitting that work by the assigned time.
All Homework, Texts, and Assignments not submitted on time will receive a 0 score.
 
Due Dates for Assignments
All work is due at the end of the class the day it's due. All work not turned in on time will receive no credit. Exceptions are made by interview only.
 
Date of Final Examination
Final Exam Week. The Final Exam is will be producing and presenting a business plan.
 
Late Assignment Policy
Late assignments are not accepted unless prior arrangements are made with the instructor.
 
Inclement Weather Policy
School dismissals and cancellations will be announced on KVSV 1190 am or 105.5 fm and KDNS 94.1 or using the RAVE system.
 
EPA Standards
The college will comply with all Federal and State Standards in regard to OSHA and EPA Regulations. In most of the shops and labs, students either handle or produce hazardous waste materials. All faculty have received training on these standards. In addition, students will receive the following instruction in this course: proper disposal or recycling of printer cartridges.
 
Services for Students with Disabilities
Students, with either a permanent or temporary disability, who require accommodations for more than one week should request services by contacting the Director of Learning Resources. Students requesting accommodations must present written documentation from a certified professional, which should include a statement identifying the disability as well as recommendations for accommodations. Policy Regarding Academic Dishonesty
Academic dishonesty of any kind will not be tolerated while attending North Central Kansas Technical College. The examples of academic dishonesty are plagiarism, cheating, falsification or forgery of any assignments or examinations. Any student who participates in any form of academic dishonesty must accept the consequences of their actions. These consequences may include but are not limited to the following (a) verbal or written warning, (b) lowering of grade for assignment/activity, (d) failure of class assignment or exam.
